Question: What are the Symptoms of Uterine Fibroid Tumors?
Answer: Although uterine fibroid tumors can cause a number of symptoms, many women have asymptomatic uterine fibroid tumors. Women who do not experience symptoms often are unaware they have the tumors until they are discovered during a pelvic exam. These women and their physicians often choose to take a “wait and see” approach to treatment, opting for no treatment as long as symptoms are not present.

Symptoms that indicate that treatment for uterine fibroid tumors may be necessary include:

  • Excessive uterine bleeding
  • Tumor size
  • Rapid growth
  • Pelvic pressure or discomfort
  • Enlarged abdomen
  • Abdominal pain
  • Pain during sexual intercourse

If you experience any of these symptoms, see your doctor for diagnosis and treatment.
