Question: What are the Symptoms of Uterine Fibroid Tumors?
Answer: Although uterine fibroid tumors can cause a number of symptoms, many women have asymptomatic uterine fibroid tumors. Women who do not experience symptoms often are unaware they have the tumors until they are discovered during a pelvic exam. These women and their physicians often choose to take a wait and see approach to treatment, opting for no treatment as long as symptoms are not present.
Symptoms that indicate that treatment for uterine fibroid tumors may be necessary include:
- Excessive uterine bleeding
- Tumor size
- Rapid growth
- Pelvic pressure or discomfort
- Enlarged abdomen
- Abdominal pain
- Pain during sexual intercourse
If you experience any of these symptoms, see your doctor for diagnosis and treatment.
