We need the hormones our endocrine systems produce to help our bodies work properly to keep us healthy. Hormones act as chemical messengers that control and organize the work our bodies do. The endocrine system works together with the nervous system, liver, stomach, kidneys, and fat to help:

  • our sexual and reproductive organs function properly,
  • us to maintain adequate energy levels,
  • our cells and organs grow and develop normally,
  • and aid our appropriate response to stress, our environments, and injury.
