Definition: An aura is a sensory disturbance that precedes a neurological disturbance such as a seizure or a migraine headache. Auras are typically visual disturbances; however, they can include other sensory symptoms, difficulty concentrating, and speech disturbances. Most auras resolve within an hour. Report your symptoms to your doctor immediately, if you have not already had a neurological evaluation.
Examples: An aura precedes a migraine headache in people who have classical migraines.
