Definition: Asymptomatic is the absence of signs or symptoms of disease. Diseases and conditions that are often asymptomatic include anemia, hepatitis C and many types of cancer, as well as HPV, the virus that causes virtually all cases of cervical cancer. The possibility of having an asymptomatic disease or condition makes having regular physical examinations vital.
Also Known As: absence of symptoms, no symptoms
Examples: Because anemia is often asymptomatic, I was surprised to learn that I am anemic.
